Points value

Chase Points: Travel Portal vs. Cash Back

Chase Ultimate Rewards are worth 1.0¢ as cash back via Pay Yourself Back and 1.25¢ when booked through Chase Travel — a 25% premium for the same points. On 50,000 points that's $500 vs $625; a $125 difference that compounds fast on large balances.

Example scenario

Numbers below use the preset inputs — adjust them in the calculator to match your situation.

Chase Travel portal wins by $125 (25.0% more value).

Option A — Pay Yourself Back / cash back

$500

1.00¢ per point

Option B — Chase Travel portal✓ wins

$625

1.25¢ per point

Difference: $125 more by choosing Chase Travel portal.

When cash back wins

Cash back (1.0¢) wins when you have no near-term travel plans, need the cash this billing cycle, or the specific flight or hotel you want isn't available through Chase Travel at a competitive price.

When the travel portal wins

Chase Travel wins whenever you have travel booked. The portal covers flights, hotels, and cars with no blackout dates and no partner transfers required. Sapphire Reserve holders get 1.5¢ — pushing the advantage to 50% over cash back.

Caveats

Pay Yourself Back (cash-back category) periodically rotates which merchants qualify at 1.25¢ rather than 1.0¢ — check the current list before assuming 1.0¢. Transfer partners often exceed 2¢+; treat the portal as a floor, not a ceiling.
