“The Standard, Lisbon is an upcoming lifestyle hotel in restored Palácio Santa Clara above Alfama, pairing Tagus River views with a major spa, pools, terraces, and nightlife-focused dining. It is a design-forward historic conversion with guestrooms, long-stay residences, and multiple social venues planned.”
The Standard, Lisbon is an upcoming lifestyle hotel in the Palácio Santa Clara development, set on a hill above Alfama with views toward the Tagus River. The property occupies a restored historic complex that began as the College of St. Francis Xavier and later served for more than two centuries as the Portuguese Royal Navy Hospital. Design and restoration are led by STC Arquitetura with interiors and creative direction by Jaime Hayon / Hayon Studio, bringing a contemporary Standard-style approach to a layered historic building. The hotel is planned with roughly 170 to 172 guestrooms, plus 24 long-stay apartments or branded residences integrated into the same development. Wellness and social spaces are central to the concept. Announced amenities include a destination spa with a thermal circuit and indoor pool, an outdoor pool with pool deck and terrace, a gym, gardens, meeting facilities, and multiple bars, cafés, and terraces designed for both hotel guests and locals. The location places guests in Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood, while overlooking Santa Apolónia train station for convenient rail access. Final room details, menus, and some operating specifics remain limited because the hotel is still in its pre-opening phase.
The Standard Single is the only specific room type already visible in public hotel materials. It is positioned as a modern Standard-style room in central Lisbon, with detailed sizing and layout information still unpublished.
City-view guestrooms are described in official room materials as modern rooms with city views and The Standard’s signature style. Exact bedding configurations and room dimensions have not yet been released.
River-view guestrooms reflect the property’s elevated position above Alfama and front-row outlook toward the Tagus. Public information confirms the river-view positioning, though final category names and layouts remain to be confirmed.
Suites are expected within the broader guestroom mix, but specific suite names, sizes, and layouts have not yet been publicly detailed. They should be understood for now as part of the hotel’s design-forward accommodation offering rather than fully defined categories.
The development includes 24 long-stay apartments or branded residences connected to the hotel. Public materials describe access to hotel-style services and amenities such as gardens, pool, spa, and concierge services.
Aim for Apr–Jun, Sep–Oct. Warm days, thinner crowds, and soft light for walking the hills. Right now it's August, rated shoulder. The next good window opens in September.
Peak tourist density on miradouros.
