Originally opened in 1890, the hotel occupies a hilltop site with extensive landscaped grounds in the traditional Higashiyama district. It sits near Keage Station on the Kyoto City Subway Tozai Line, within about a 15-minute walk of Chion-in Temple and Yasaka Shrine, and offers a free direct shuttle to Kyoto Station for transfers. The 11-floor property features Japanese gardens and hillside views, with rooms and suites providing panoramic vistas over Kyoto. It includes the Kasui-en annex, which operates as a luxury ryokan-style wing within the main hotel while connecting to all facilities. Signature amenities include natural hot spring baths and the Spa Kacho complex, indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, and dining at All Day Dining RAQOU, Dominique Bouchet Kyoto, Tea Lounge Mayfair, and Bar Rokuza. The smoke-free hotel provides on-site parking, concierge services, and 24-hour front desk support but does not allow pets.
When to go.
Kyoto is strongest in April and November because tourism guidance highlights cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage in mid-to-late November, while climate sources describe these shoulder-season months as generally mild and drier than the rainy, humid summer period.
Kyoto enters the rainy season in June and early July, then has hot, humid summer weather through August and a higher typhoon-season risk in September, which can make travel less comfortable and more disruptive.
